Marriage and Family Therapist David Hayes is an expert in relationship conflict and the treatment of attachment related mental disorders. He brings a balanced understanding of the developmental stages and needs of very young children and of adolescents to the process of mediating the disputes between their parents.
Practice Areas
David is a Beverly Hills family therapist, but he is available to help couples throughout Southern California. His clinical practice focuses upon families, children of all ages, and adults. David is also an outside clinical supervisor at the Maple Counseling Center in Beverly Hills.
As a founding member of LAFMS, he serves as a Mediator and Therapeutic Co-Mediator, contributing his expertise to de-escalating high conflict dissolutions and custody and visitation situations. He enjoys working with individuals and couples with and without children.
Conflict Resolution Experience
David brings significant clinical skills to the resolution of deeply rooted arguments that impede healthy separations. He received post-graduate training and clinical supervision in helping people to overcome the types of relational conflict that otherwise lead to impasses between the parties that can spin into legal warfare. Impasses often have roots in the individual and combined histories and stories of each partner.
David is skilled at assessing the behavioral patterns and communication blocks between disputants, whose attitudes toward each other tend to become rigid, and in facilitating the parties in uncovering appropriate strategies for moving forward productively. This includes reframing speech and conduct interactions that, if ignored, continue the cycle of dispute. The mediation process benefits enormously when people can be helped to understand and manage their accumulated resentments. Besides lessening the toxic effects of divorce or other relational difficulties for each partner individually in terms of their present and future emotions, physical health, and finances, custody and support agreements achieved in this fashion are far more flexible and enduring.
